The video series of six short films, investigates relations from sensing atmospheric conditions in environments and in the art of projection and cinema.

1 Kirkbride: In Memoriam

The work configures images and sounds of material forms – light, architectural spaces, natural environments, screen surfaces of white cloth and paper sculptures – to form a sensing of affects, tonality and mood, in its interaction with the viewer.

Atmosphere, as a phenomena generated out of the energy of the material world, is figured as an interrelated field – intangible and yet tangible – waves of resonances of a place outside and inside of us. (Read more below)

Presentation

The suite of video work proposes the presentation (projection) of the six parts on one or more channels video installation.

Production

All images, sounds and music, were recorded at Kirkbride campus of the Sydney College of the Arts and Callan Park, Sydney.

The series of six short films, titled, Rehearsals of Material Gestures, were edited and produced in 2025, from materials filmed and field sound recordings in 2012-2014.

Kirkbride was a purpose-built hospital in 1880s for moral therapy treatment of the insane. It became part of Callan Park Hospital and until 2019 housed the Sydney College of the Arts of the University of Sydney.
